B.E.S.T. LAWS™ Attorney helps the victim through any pending criminal charges that human trafficking victims often face, or civil matters, such as property or lawsuits against the traffickers or other perpetrators. If the victim is an immigrant, B.E.S.T.™ provides them with a trained immigration attorney, who can assist them in procuring specialized visas for victims of trafficking, as well as any other particular needs they might have. The attorney empowers the victim to make decisions regarding their legal cases and status, unlike a Guardian ad Litem who only sees to the perceived best interests of their client. The B.E.S.T.™ Certified Coach works under the auspices of the B.E.S.T. LAWS™ Attorney, much like a paralegal, and is covered under attorney-client privilege, so that all interactions the B.E.S.T.™ Certified Coach has with the victim is strictly privileged. This makes it easier for a victim to trust the attorney and the coach. The coach further evaluates all the victim’s non-legal physical and emotional needs, such as housing and mental health needs and works with the attorney to develop the plan for those services. The coach coordinates with service providers to make sure the victim is safe and healthy. The coach conducts victim interviews. The Accredited B.E.S.T. Academy™ teaches coaches how to appropriately gather information regarding their trafficking experience, so when it is willing and voluntary, the victim can hand over accurate information to the authorities to pursue and prosecute the trafficker. Finally, the coach helps the victim set realistic goals for his or her future, and creates a plan with the victim on how to achieve these goals. As we aid sex trafficking victims with our evidence-based model, we are constantly seeking to educate those of all ages on the realities of trafficking in this country and abroad.
